Location Sacramento, CA
Timeline July 2026
Property Type Residential property
Materials Used James Hardie smooth-texture fiber cement siding, James Hardie ColorPlus Technology siding on the front elevation

For this Sacramento project, we replaced the home’s existing siding with new James Hardie fiber cement siding. The old siding was worn and ready for replacement, so the first step was removing the existing material and preparing the exterior for the new installation.

We used a smooth-texture finish throughout most of the home for a simple, updated look. For the front elevation, we installed James Hardie siding with ColorPlus Technology and its factory-applied finish.

The project included the full siding replacement, from removal and exterior prep to installing the new siding across the home.

After removing the old siding, we found damage that wasn’t visible at the start of the project. Some of the soffit had deteriorated, and exposed wood needed to be repaired before we could move forward with the new siding.

The smooth James Hardie finish also required extra care during installation. With no texture to hide small inconsistencies, spacing, seams, and alignment had to be kept clean from one section to the next.

Another consideration was bringing the two siding finishes together. Since ColorPlus was used on the front and smooth siding on the rest of the home, we had to make sure the transitions looked intentional and consistent.

OUR SOLUTION

Once the old siding was removed, it was clear the house needed more than a cosmetic update. Some of the material underneath had deteriorated, so the replacement siding needed to be durable and improve the appearance of the home. Smooth James Hardie siding gave us that balance.

We chose ColorPlus for the front because it has a factory-applied finish that looks especially clean and uniform. On a front elevation, where every detail is visible from the street, that extra finish made sense.

The sides and back were done in regular smooth James Hardie siding. They still have the same updated appearance, but there was no reason to add the more finished ColorPlus product in areas that are not seen as often.

SCOPE OF WORK

Complete removal of the existing siding
Preparation of exterior surfaces for new siding installation
Installation of James Hardie smooth-texture fiber cement siding
Installation of James Hardie ColorPlus Technology siding on the front elevation
Precise siding alignment and detailed finishing
Improvement of the home's exterior weather resistance
Complete exterior transformation with a clean, contemporary appearance

We started by taking off the old siding so we could see what was going on underneath and get the house ready for the new exterior.

Once the walls were exposed, we found areas of soffit and wood that needed attention. We repaired those sections first so the new siding would be installed over a solid base.

Smooth James Hardie fiber cement siding was installed around the home for a cleaner, more updated look. On the front, we used James Hardie ColorPlus siding for a more consistent factory-finished appearance.

After the siding was in place, we went back over the seams, transitions, and finished areas to make sure everything looked right and was properly installed.

The old siding had become one of the first things you noticed about the house. It was worn, dated, and ready for an update.

Instead of replacing only the sections that needed attention, we replaced the siding across the entire exterior with smooth-texture James Hardie fiber cement siding.

The front of the house was finished with James Hardie ColorPlus siding, while the smooth-texture siding was used on the remaining elevations. The combination adds a little variation without making the exterior feel too busy.

The finished home looks noticeably different from where we started. The new siding gives the exterior cleaner lines and a more current look from the street.
