PROJECT OVERVIEW

The garden deck at this Roseville property was in rough condition. Years of exposure had taken a toll on the wood, leaving extensive rot throughout the existing structure. It was no longer safe to use, so the plan called for a full replacement rather than a repair: remove the old deck entirely, rebuild the frame, and finish the space with Trex composite decking.

The footprint may be compact, but the difference is significant. What was once an aging, unsafe part of the yard is now a sturdy outdoor area that the homeowners can use comfortably for years to come.

CHALLENGES

The biggest challenge on this project was the condition of the deck itself. Years of moisture exposure had left the wood rotted throughout, which meant the structure could no longer be trusted to bear weight safely. A patch job wasn’t an option – the deck needed to come out completely and be rebuilt from the ground up.

Since the old frame couldn’t be reused, every piece of the substructure had to be measured, cut, and assembled on site to make sure the new deck would be level, square, and stable before a single board of decking went down.

Working in a small garden footprint also meant staying precise with layout and spacing so the finished deck made the most of the available space without feeling cramped.

OUR SOLUTION

The goal was to keep the project simple and practical: remove what had failed, rebuild the structure properly, and use a decking material that would require less attention over time.

After dismantling the old deck, we built an entirely new structural frame designed to support the space for the long term. Getting the framing right was the priority, since it’s what everything else depends on.

For the finished surface, we chose premium Trex composite decking. Trex gives homeowners the warm, natural look of a traditional wood deck without the maintenance headaches, standing up to moisture, rot, fading, and insects that would otherwise wear down a wood structure over time.

For a garden deck exposed to the elements, that durability made it the right material for the job. The combination of a rebuilt frame and composite decking gave the homeowners a deck that’s both structurally sound and easy to live with for years to come.

SCOPE OF WORK

Removal of deteriorated structural components
Construction of new deck framing from scratch

PROCESS

We started by tearing out the existing deck and clearing away the rotted wood, leaving a clean slate to work with.

From there, we built a new structural frame, taking care with the layout and support spacing to give the deck a solid, long-lasting foundation.

Once the framing was complete and inspected, we installed the Trex composite decking boards, working section by section to maintain consistent spacing and alignment across the small footprint.

With the decking in place, we finished by checking the details, edges, transitions, and fasteners to make sure the deck was ready for everyday use.

BEFORE AND AFTER

The old deck had become a liability rather than an asset. Rotted wood, an unstable frame, and years of wear had left it unsafe for the homeowners to enjoy. In its place is a brand-new Trex garden deck: clean, modern, and built on a frame specifically designed for this space.

Where the old deck showed its age at every board, the new one offers a consistent, finished look from edge to edge. The change goes beyond appearance. The homeowners now have a deck they can step onto without wondering whether it will hold up, backed by materials chosen to resist the moisture and insect damage that took down the original structure.
